Notes and new features for 1.6a update

1) This ROM uses latest 720 kernel for MK808B dates Jan 10 2013.

2) I have added the gameloft patch from Christian Troy. This fixes the license check for some gameloft games.
Before this patch many gameloft games would crash to the desktop and now run. e.g. like Wonder Zoo
These now work.

3) I have highly modified build.prop to give you the most APPs show up in google play.
Build.prop edit to open up the Google Play store to APPs that normally say “not compatible”.
I am spoofing a Samsung device that will show almost any APP as compatible.
Your device will show up in google play as NOT a MK808 device! Understand this please. I also left the original buiild.prop in the ROM called build.orig. If you want to go back, just use ES File explorer or a root file explorer and rename build.prop to build.old. Then rename build.orig to build.prop.
Go into settings, apps, all and go into the Google Play app. Clear the cache and data.
Reboot! You should be back to showing up as a MK808.

4) Updated build.prop to fix the version number. my original 1.6 reported as 1.5a

5) I put back in the RK Settings by request

EVERYTHING ELSE BELOW STILL APPLIES same as my 1.6 ROM
If you do not want to erase and reflash but want the new kernel.
Simply uncheck everything in the flash tool and flash only kernel.img
However, if you have stability issues then I reccomend a erase and reflash!
Changing the kernel does not always work properly depending on changes in the kernel.

Features in 1.6 ROM:

1) Optimized for scaled up 720 to 1080 for best look!
2) Hide status bar soft button with “easy” bring it back up by dragging mouse from bottom up!
3) Shut down soft button! USE THIS instead of unplugging and causing a BRICK of your ROM!
4) Fully rooted with the latest SU and SUperUser.apk
5) Debloated of china and other junk APPs you an get back from Google Play
6) FULL GOOGLE PLAY mods! Onlive and other Apps shouls show up now.
If you want more compatabiliyt like Gameloft, you must edit build.prop. See Freaktab.com for that info.
7) Soft volume buttons on status bar.
Special add for this ROM. Full init.d support! If you do not know what that is… ignore it.
If you do, you can now install and use boot time scripts like V6 SUper Charger!
9) All APPs are up to date! So you will not get any Google Play APPs needing updated.
10) Cleaned up the file system so it is not fragmented! Basicly I used linux tune2fs when making the images.
11) I added a reboot APP that will allow optional reboot options like reboot to bootloader (flash mode).
12) The Xbox XPAD.KO module is now injected on boot. This was by request! Enjoy!
13) CIFS, TUN and MD4 KO modules were also added by request.

In the ROM kit there is a read me! This has full instructions for how to upgrade. So PLEASE read the read me!

Update on 15th March:

There is now a 1.7C version for the MK808 Original (non-B).
1.7b had a problem with the mouse zoom feature.

This new release called 1.7c fixes the mouse zoom function which is useful for Google Earth APP, etc.
In settings>accessability>mouse zoom
You can turn on mouse zoom and your mouse wheel when depressed and rolled will activate a zoom mode.
For this to work you need a mouse with a wheel that is also a mouse button.
e.g. in windows the wheel when depressed acts as a double click.

Also by request this time I added the Rockchip updated libstagefright.so to try and fix HW decoding issues in XBMC.

Users have now tested and the wifi issues are fixed!
Some MK808 users reported wifi issues with connection rate dropping over time with 1.7 and 1.7a.
1.7c is fixed.

This ROM is from great bob, it is the newest custom rom for MK808/MK808B, ( Tested with Geekbuying Sold MK808/MK808B, all working great! ) , here is the changelog:

This is an enterly new system. This is not much from the original MK808 ROM in this as fas as system goes.Many features from my 1.6 ROM are of course in this along with new features.
1) New “auto hide” status bar!  To enable this go into settings>Display and turn it on.Now anytime you run an APP it will automatically hide the status bar.  Please note, some badly written APPscan leave you in a stuck condition that you cannot exit the APP.  You will need you keyoard exit key.
2) While you in settings>display there is another feature to force the settings menu icon in the status bar.It is 3 dots vertically.  NOw anytime you in a APP that has a settings capability, if you click that you get settings!
3) Lock screen is back friends!  Now is settings>security you canA) Disable the lock screen completely (default is slide)b) Setup a pattern for lock screenc) Setup a PIN for lock screend) Setup a password for lock screen
4) Sleep is back like a tablet!!!! Go into settings>display and you can turn on sleep!Now understand how this worksa) If there is no wifi or ehternet connection the MK808 when it goes to sleep will power off.b) If there is a connection, it will simple go into low power mode and turn the display off.  Moving the mouse turns it back on again
5) I enabled location services.  This is now in the settings menu.  Tested and working with all APPs that use it.remember to turn off GPS as we have no GPS.
6) New “grid” style launcher available as a choice of launcehrs.Some people still want the Alternate launcher that comes with many TV sticks for EZ TV use.I took this from the Neo X5 ROM as I liked it better than previous versions. This of course comes with the RK settings as well.If you want to remove this just use ES File explorer and delete these files from /system/appLauncherNEW.apkAllApp.apkRKSettings.apkRKBasicsettings.apkNow just reboot and all this will be gone.

HI guys:

Recently i am trying to learn the CWM recovery on TV STICKS. today i follow the instruction on freaktab,and successfully installed the CWM recovery on MK808, should same as MK808B.

Why do you need to install CWM?

I am also a new student on this, in my opinion, after install the CWM, you can backup your stock firmware, and restore it easily, no need to worry about bricking the device when you use other roms. is there any other use? please tell me.

ok, here is what i am doing:

1 Download the MK808 CWM recovery here: ( if you need original MK808B, you should download from here)

2 change the download file name to update.zip

3 put the update.zip file to your micro sd card;

4 turn on your MK808/MK808B, insert the micro sd card, the system will inform you find a new update, and ask if you want to install, click ,yes, the system will reboot,and install the CWM.

after reboot, you will successfully install the CWM recovery on your MK808/MK808B.

How to check if you have succesfully installed?

1 download this reboot app (credit to Petrus on freaktab),

2 install this app to your MK808/MK808B;

3 run the reboot app, choose reboot to recovery

4 system will reboot, and if you have succefully install CMW Recovery, you will be in this menu after reboot:

so here is my thought:

1 if you can successful boot to android OS in your MK808/MK808B, then you can use that reboot app to CWM recovery and install other roms.

2 if you brick your MK808/MK808B, how should you do?

I still figure out the method, if you can not go to the android system in your MK808/MK808B, but you still want to flash the other rom with CWM recovery, you should do the following:

connect MK808 DC port with the charger, when you see the blue led light on mk808, then press the reset button, connect with hdmi cable, you will find your system also go to CWM Recovery.

Hope this is helpful for some guys.

We found some problem with this ROM, freaktab developer is working on a new ROM,please wait for the new upgrade.

Update instruction:

First you should follow this method to install CWM recovery on your MK808B.

And then you should do the below instruction:

1. Download and copy it to a microsd and insert it in the stick.
2. Enter cwm recovery.
3. Wipe data/factory reset
4. Advanced/wipe dalvick cache.
5. Mounts and storage/format sdcard.(recommended, can works without this step, but i suggest to do it. All data in internal sdcard will be lost)
6. Install zip from sdcard/choose zip from external sdcard/ Choose update-4.2.2-mk808b.zip and install.
7. Reboot device.

The first boot is slow, you can wait 3 or 4 minutes, and when you enter in the system it will be slow and lagged, in next reboot it will be fine. The device is rooted by default so only need to install supersu from google play.

Features and release notes for my 2.1 JB 4.2.2 ROM:

1) Rooted with an updated SU and Superuser.apk that works with 4.2.2

2) Debloated of a huge amount of crap apps!
Oh and the stock ROM was wasting a ton of NAND space!
They had defined system.img to be DOUBLE that of normal ROMs.
This was to handle the huge system.img that they filled with a ton of bloat!
I reduced the parameter file from 200000 for system back to 100000 after debloat.
Realize that with these reduced parameter files, the original system.img wont fit.
So to go back to stock ROM you will need to erase NAND and use the original parameter files.
I have provided the original parameter file in the ROM kit named parameter_original.

3) As always, full init.d support! If you do not know what that is… ignore it. For geeks that want to use it. It is there!

11) I edited framework to turn off the default “Bubbles” live wallpaper.
I hate live wallpapers on first boot. It slows the boot down and over all initial performance.
I have set the usual green leaf standard wallpaper.
I also removed the FAKE files they added to framework in they attempt they made to try a keep people from modding this ROM!
I can’t believe they are trying to go to this level and protect the ROM and keep people from editing it easily!
That’s fixed! Enjoy an OPEN ROM again.

16) 1080P patched kernel baby! I patched the stock kernel to 1080P.
There are 2 kernels and 2 boots in the ROM kit. By default kernel720 and boot720 are selected in the flash tool. If you want to use a 1080 kernel then read the instructions below.

Other notes:
CIFS.ko, Xpad.ko, md4.ko, etc is already in the stock kernel! China dev’s are learning 

Expect some rooted APPs to not play right due to the new multi-user permissions of 4.2.2

In this ROM Automatic “set date and time from network” is not turned on.
I could fix that but ran out of time for now.
I highly suggest you turn this on first!
If you do not the default date is 1970 on every boot!
Google Play does not like this so turn it on before you sign into Google.
